Akasha Yoga Academy: 80-Hour Advanced Hatha and Pranayama Online Yoga Teacher Training

Course program

The 80-Hour Advanced Hatha and Pranayama Online Teacher Training by Akasha Yoga Academy integrates breath, bandhas, and asana within the classical Hatha lineage of Krishnamacharya. Emphasizing breath as the key to authentic yoga, the program treats advanced pranayama as foundational for personal practice and teaching. It covers breath-based asana, bandha integration, advanced pranayama, arm balances, alignment refinement, and adaptations for various needs. The curriculum includes study of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, modern yoga history, and teaching methodology for breath-centered classes. Led by experienced E-RYT-500 teachers, the fully online, self-paced course offers lifetime access to materials and awards 80 Yoga Alliance-accredited continuing education hours.

This training is designed for experienced practitioners and existing yoga teachers who want to deepen their relationship with breath-based practice, especially those who feel they have plateaued in physical practice and want to move into the energetic and contemplative dimensions of yoga. Some prior yoga experience is expected, but no formal credential is strictly required.

Core content covers breath-based asana, the integration of bandhas with movement, and advanced pranayama in both moving and seated forms. Students explore arm balances including crow and crane, headstand variations, and an introduction to handstand training, with attention to wrist preparation, core strength, and supporting anatomy. The program addresses alignment refinement, modifications for common injuries and pregnancy, and adaptations for different body types and ages.

A substantial portion of the training is dedicated to the Hatha Yoga Pradipika as a source scripture, alongside an exploration of modern yoga lineages and history. Pranayama study covers heating and cooling techniques, anatomy of respiration, kundalini-charged Bandha work, and the energetic and spiritual implications of breath. Teaching methodology focuses on how to hold space during intense breath-work, structure breath-centered classes, and adapt practices for individual students.

The program is led by Devdas, Kirsten, and Burkhard, three senior teachers with E-RYT-500 certification from Yoga Alliance. Marc Laws joins as a guest teacher for the arm balancing workshops.

The training is fully online and self-paced. Students receive lifetime access to all video lessons, manuals, and training materials, and can begin and progress at their own pace. The program includes seven supplementary bonuses covering the 8 Limbs of Yoga, 24 guided audio meditations, and practical business resources for yoga teachers.
