Akasha Yoga Academy: 80-Hour Online Yin Yoga Teacher Training

Course program

The 80-Hour Online Yin Yoga Teacher Training from Akasha Yoga Academy explores the principles of yin practice, functional anatomy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and contemplative inquiry. The program trains students to understand why yin works at a physiological level, how it interacts with the energetic body, and how to teach it with depth and precision.

This training is designed for yoga teachers and dedicated practitioners who want to add yin yoga to their teaching or deepen their personal practice. It suits teachers looking to offer a contemplative counterbalance to more active styles, and practitioners drawn to slower, introspective work. Some prior yoga experience is expected, though no formal certification is required.

– Foundational principles of yin yoga and how it differs from yang styles
– Benefits of sustained holds for connective tissue, fascia, and joint health
– Functional anatomy with focus on skeletal variation and individual differences in posture and range of motion
– Traditional Chinese Medicine meridian theory and its application in yin yoga
– Designing targeted sequences using meridian and 5 Elements Theory
– Bridging Western anatomy (myofascial lines) with Eastern energy models
– Self-Inquiry, mindfulness, awareness practices, and breathwork as part of yin yoga teaching
– Class structuring, modifications, contraindications, and understanding the energetics of each posture

Four senior teachers lead the program. Kirsten specializes in yin yoga and contemplative practice. Burkhard is recognized for the depth of his practice and his ability to hold space. Devdas brings expertise in meditation and pranayama. Astrid serves as the anatomy specialist, combining intellectual rigor with experiential understanding of the body in yin postures. All hold E-RYT-500 certification.

The training is delivered online, combining pre-recorded video content filmed in the academy’s Bali studio with monthly live Zoom calls with the lead teachers. Students progress at their own pace with lifetime access to all materials. Five included bonuses cover a Yin Yang Pranayama Masterclass, a breath-based alignment workshop, a yin yoga sequences guide, a poster for practice reference, and a music collection.
