Applied Yoga: Applied Yoga Mobility: Breath Work, Diaphragm Mechanics and Conscious Relaxation

Course program

Applied Yoga Mobility: Breath Work, Diaphragm Mechanics and Conscious Relaxation is a self-paced online course from Applied Yoga that teaches the foundational mechanics of breathing and the role of the diaphragm in overall health, movement, and pranayama practice. It blends classical yogic breath work with Western respiratory mechanics.

Yoga teachers, advanced practitioners, and movement professionals with prior yoga or movement experience, especially those working with students experiencing anxiety, back, neck, or shoulder pain, compromised breathing patterns, or bodyworkers integrating breath into their sessions.

– The foundational mechanics of breathing and the role of the diaphragm in health, movement, and pranayama
– Proper diaphragmatic breathing and 360-degree rib cage expansion
– The shallow diaphragmatic breath for deep relaxation
– Seven core breath lessons: pranayama and conscious relaxation, shallow diaphragmatic breath, deep diaphragmatic breathing (two progressions), seated breath work visualization, integrating breath into asana, and a restorative practice
– How to use asana to access different parts of the body with the breath
– How restorative postures can increase energy and release tension
– The Applied Yoga methodology for breathwork

The course is taught by Jory Serota, founder of Applied Yoga Seminars and a certified NeuroKinetic Therapy Instructor with over 20 years of experience in kinesiology and therapeutic movement. Serota has trained thousands of yoga teachers and bodyworkers and is known for making complex biomechanical material accessible without losing precision.

The course is delivered entirely online in a self-paced video format with lifetime access across any device. Students progress through the introductory module and the seven breath lessons on their own schedule. Support is provided through the private Applied Yoga Facebook community, where students can post questions and case studies. A 3-day refund window is offered if the material isn’t a fit.

Jory offers a depth of knowledge that can only come from direct experience and dedicated self-study. Without fail, every time I practice with him I walk away with new techniques to awaken my body and steady the mind. He naturally weaves together the integrity of all eight limbs of yoga and leads his classes with humor, focus and precision. Jory represents a powerful link in a chain of teachers going back centuries, and is himself, an embodiment of Yoga.
