Applied Yoga: Applied Yoga Mobility: The Sacroiliac Joint

Course program

Applied Yoga Mobility: The Sacroiliac Joint is a continuing education course by Applied Yoga, the school founded by NeuroKinetic Therapy Instructor Jory Serota. It teaches yoga teachers and movement professionals how to assess and address sacroiliac joint dysfunction by blending classical asana with functional movement principles drawn from physical therapy.

Yoga teachers, advanced practitioners, and movement professionals with a foundation in yoga or movement work, especially those already teaching or treating clients and credentialed Yoga Alliance teachers seeking CE credits.

The curriculum focuses on the sacroiliac joint, the meeting point of the sacrum and ilium, and the pelvic mechanics that often contribute to back pain, sciatic-like symptoms, and limited trunk mobility. You’ll learn how to assess for and treat common causes of SI joint dysfunction and how to integrate that assessment into your teaching of yoga.

The practical work covers yogic techniques to strengthen weak glutes, poses to lengthen hypertonic hamstrings, and specific cueing for standing postures that stabilize the SI joint. Pose-by-pose lessons walk through Triangle Prep (Parsva Hasta Padasana), Warrior 2, Side Flank Pose, Bridge, Locust, Standing Forward Fold, Parsvottanasana variations, Supta Padangusthasana on three planes, and Seated Wide Angle Pose. The throughline is functional motor control as the foundation for muscular health and pain-free movement.

The course is led by Jory Serota, founder of Applied Yoga and a certified NeuroKinetic Therapy Instructor with more than 20 years of experience in kinesiology and movement disciplines. He has trained thousands of yoga teachers and bodyworkers in his anatomy-informed approach and is known for making complex biomechanical concepts accessible.

The course is delivered self-paced as pre-recorded video lessons through the Applied Yoga online academy. After enrolling you have lifetime access across your devices. Support is offered through the Applied Yoga private Facebook group, where you can ask questions or share case studies with other practitioners.

Jory offers a depth of knowledge that can only come from direct experience and dedicated self-study. Without fail, every time I practice with him I walk away with new techniques to awaken my body and steady the mind. He naturally weaves together the integrity of all eight limbs of yoga and leads his classes with humor, focus and precision. Jory represents a powerful link in a chain of teachers going back centuries, and is himself, an embodiment of Yoga.
