Astrology University: Relationship Astrology 101 – Synastry

Course program

Relationship Astrology 101 – Synastry by Astrology University is a self-paced introduction to the technique of synastry, taught by Brian Clark. The course examines how two natal charts interact and interconnect, framing relationship astrology as a practice of dialogue between charts rather than a search for compatibility shortcuts.

This course is for students with prior astrological grounding, practising or training astrologers who want to add synastry to their toolkit, and serious students preparing for client work in relationship analysis. It is part of Astrology University’s four-year diploma curriculum and assumes a working understanding of natal charts, planets, signs, and aspects.

The curriculum introduces the foundational steps of synastry, beginning with how to construct a framework for considering how two horoscopes meet. Brian works with bi-wheels and aspect grids to articulate the energy systems and synergy of a relationship, examining the impact of each person’s planets on their partner’s chart and lived environment.

Rather than offering compatibility recipes, the material focuses on how planets relate to one another and how two people can work with the charts they have for more successful and fulfilling relating. The technique is taught as broadly applicable: the same approach can be used to examine romantic partnerships, parent-child relationships, sibling dynamics, friendships, and professional connections. Required reading includes Brian’s own book From the Moment We Met: The Astrology of Adult Relationships and Ronald Davison’s Synastry, with Skymates by Steven Forrest and Jodie Tighe and Stephen Arroyo’s Relationships and Life Cycles offered as supplementary texts.

The course is led by Brian Clark, a Melbourne-based astrologer with more than 50 years of practice. Brian is the founder of Astro*Synthesis, an FAA-accredited astrology teacher, and the author of eight books including From the Moment We Met and The Sibling Constellation. He has served as president of the Federation of Australian Astrologers and lectures internationally across Asia, Europe, and North America.

The format is self-paced. The course offers more than six hours of pre-recorded video instruction, paired with audio files and downloadable handouts, and is available for instant access after enrolment. Reading assignments and homework support deeper engagement with the material. Optional live Q&A sessions with Brian are scheduled periodically through the year, but the core content can be completed independently. A diploma-track upgrade is available for students enrolled in the four-year program who want written feedback on their homework and exam review.
