Costa Yoga School: Self Paced Online 200 Hour YTT

Course program

The Self Paced Online 200 Hour YTT by Costa Yoga School is a Yoga Alliance-accredited teacher training program led by founder Mandy Lawson. The course is built around the principle that yoga is an individual practice and that teachers must meet each student where they are. Students explore the full eight limbs of yoga across Hatha-based Vinyasa Flow and Restorative styles.

This training has no prerequisites — no minimum length of practice or experience level is required to enroll. It suits complete beginners exploring yoga for the first time, established practitioners ready to teach, and those returning to yoga after a break. The course is designed for anyone interested in the art and science of yoga, including future teachers and personal-practice deepeners.

The curriculum is built around the eight limbs of yoga and spans seven sections plus dedicated units on Restorative Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, and 50 core asanas organized by category. Foundational study covers what yoga is, the six branches, the lineage and history of yoga, the major yogic texts, and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Meditation training introduces mindfulness, metta, mantra, japa, and trataka practices. Pranayama covers the Centering Breath, Three Part Breath, Ujjayi, Bhramari, Kapalabhati, and Nadi Sodhana. Students also study chakras, bandhas, adjustments and assists, and yoga anatomy and alignment. Specialized modules address teaching prenatal students, children, seniors, and chair-based practitioners. Ethics for teachers and students and the business side of running a yoga practice are included. The training closes with assignments, reading, and a teaching practicum component.

The program is led by founder Mandy Lawson, an E-RYT 500, RYCT, and YACEP certified Yoga Alliance teacher with more than nine years of yoga teaching experience and over two decades in the broader health and fitness industry. Based in Costa Rica, Mandy holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is a certified Hypnotherapist. Her teaching focuses on making yoga accessible to every body.

The format is fully self-paced online. Students work through pre-recorded video lectures and written materials at their own pace with no time limit to complete the program. The final teaching evaluation can be done two ways: students may record themselves teaching both a Vinyasa flow and a Restorative Yoga class, or schedule a live online session with Mandy to teach the classes in real time.

Mandy has a warm and welcoming personality and made herself accessible throughout the training, but the best part was how well she was able to break down the material so anyone could understand it. I loved the balance between yogic philosophy and asana styles while hitting home the importance of anatomy. Thanks to Mandy I feel confident I can design yoga classes around my students' needs. Whether you're just starting your yoga journey or looking to refresh your skills, I highly recommend training with Mandy.

In a moment of time and life that was the most challenging of all, I was fortunate enough to be able to take Costa Yoga's 300-hour online training. During the pandemic I dove into this deeper study of yoga philosophy and way of life that I never really knew existed. I had always thought of yoga just as movement and stretching, but have come to realize just how much more it is. This training is not only worth the time and the financial investment, but it truly helps bring awareness to how full circle a yoga practice is to the meaning and quality of life.
