Island Prenatal Yoga: 85-Hour Online Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training

Course program

The 85-Hour Online Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training by Island Prenatal Yoga is a fully online program registered with Yoga Alliance as a Prenatal Yoga School. It bundles two full courses — Prenatal Yoga and Postnatal Yoga — into a single training designed for teachers who want to guide students safely through pregnancy and the early postpartum period.

The course is for anyone who has completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training or has a regular personal yoga practice with an interest in prenatal and postnatal work. It is also open to Pilates instructors, doulas, midwives, and birth workers.

The curriculum includes more than ten core modules walking through everything needed for prenatal and postnatal certification. Students study the breakdown of each trimester, common pregnancy conditions such as round ligament pain, pelvic girdle pain, back pain, and labor preparation, the fourth trimester and postnatal recovery, and how to teach mixed-trimester classes.

Practical teaching materials include pranayama techniques and demonstrations, meditations, printable sample sequences, sample prenatal and postnatal classes, and guidance on cues and modifications specific to pregnancy and postpartum. Both the Prenatal and Postnatal courses come with their own manual, video lessons, and quiz-based knowledge checks.

The training is led by Lauren, founder of Island Prenatal Yoga. She trained in prenatal and postnatal yoga after encountering her first pregnant student as a new yoga teacher and has since taught in the US, Europe, and Bali before founding Island Prenatal Yoga in Tahiti in 2019. She has trained over 650 students through the school’s online programs.

The course is self-paced with 12 months of access to all video lessons and downloadable manuals, so students can move through the material on their own schedule. Optional live cohort rounds with Q&A calls run periodically through the year for students who want extra support. Certification requires completing knowledge-check questions in each manual (50 prenatal, 35 postnatal), recording a 20–30 minute sample teaching video for review, and completing 10 hours of guided observation. Students aiming for the Yoga Alliance RPYT designation also log 30 hours of practice teaching.
