Functional Movement Injury Prevention Physical Conditioning

Lasater Yoga: Experiential Anatomy: Yoga Therapeutics

Course program

Experiential Anatomy: Yoga Therapeutics is an online functional anatomy training from Lasater Yoga, led by Judith Hanson Lasater, PhD, PT, alongside yoga therapist Mary Richards and course architect Lizzie Lasater. The program teaches anatomy as embodied, practical insight rather than dry theory, bridging yoga therapeutics, movement science, and self-inquiry.

This training is for yoga teachers who want to integrate anatomy into their teaching and for experienced practitioners navigating injury, aging, or chronic discomfort. It assumes a foundation in yoga practice and is especially useful for teachers who feel uncertain when students mention injuries or pain.

The curriculum is organized into three themed arcs. The Standing Yogi explores posture, forward-head position, thoracic kyphosis, and the role of the lumbar curve and pelvis in lower back integrity. The Seated Yogi addresses how habitual sitting shapes the spine, digestion, and pelvic floor, and covers backbends, rotation, and the anatomy of breath. The Walking Yogi examines the glutes and locomotion, scapular mobility, knee mechanics, and the stability and mobility of the ankles and feet.

Each of the twelve 2.5-hour sessions combines lecture, therapeutic asana, and guided rest. Professional students receive eight additional 2-hour seminar sessions for discussion, clarification, and integration with Mary and Judith, plus a downloadable Advanced Therapeutics Guide.

Judith Hanson Lasater has taught yoga since 1971, holds a doctorate in East-West psychology, and is a licensed physical therapist and pioneer of Restorative yoga. She is one of the founders of Yoga Journal and has written eleven books on yoga. Mary Richards, MS, is a certified yoga therapist. Lizzie Lasater serves as course architect.

The format is self-paced: all sessions are pre-recorded, accessed through the online platform. Foundations students receive three years of access to all replays and course resources. Professional students receive lifetime access and six months with Emi Bot, an AI anatomy tutor trained on Judith’s books and courses. A course discussion board lets students ask questions and connect with peers.
