Loka Yoga School: Meditation Teacher Training

Course program

The Online Meditation Teacher Training & Certification by Loka Yoga School is a 20-hour self-paced program accredited with Yoga Alliance as a YACEP continuing education course. Built around a ‘Meditation Buffet’ of over 25 techniques, the training is designed to help students find the meditation style that suits them and prepare them to guide meditation in their own classes and community.

This training is open to complete beginners and existing teachers alike — no previous meditation or yoga teacher certification is required to enrol. It suits anyone wanting to build a personal meditation practice, yoga teachers adding meditation to their existing classes, wellness professionals introducing meditation to clients, and certified teachers seeking 20 hours of Yoga Alliance YACEP continuing education credits.

The curriculum introduces over 25 meditation techniques, including Yoga Nidra, mindfulness, loving kindness, breathwork, visualisations, mandala, mantra, and mala meditations, with both video lectures and full-length guided audios for each style. Students study the history of meditation, common myths around the practice, the benefits, and FAQs that often hold people back, as well as the three secrets to a successful practice and how to troubleshoot common obstacles.

Beyond technique, the training includes a 7-week guide to changing habits with meditation — a step-by-step framework for breaking bad habits and addictions using the practice — plus a dedicated module on releasing negative emotions and handling stress. Students also receive a collection of 5-minute guided meditations and meditation scripts they can use when leading their own classes or workshops.

The program is led by Taryn Weggelaar, founder of Loka Yoga School and a Yoga Alliance E-RYT teacher who has worked professionally as a meditation, yoga, and pranayama teacher for over 15 years. Her teaching experience spans Olympic athletes, corporate employees, senior citizens, pregnant students, and mental-health populations across yoga studios in multiple countries.

The format is fully self-paced. All content is delivered through Loka Yoga School’s online training portal as pre-recorded video lectures, written workbooks, and audio guided meditations that students can access anytime, anywhere. Purchase grants three months of full access followed by a $4.99 monthly subscription to retain access. There are no scheduled cohort dates and no required live sessions — students progress on their own timeline.

I recently completed this breathwork course, and I genuinely found it to be a very valuable and informative experience. The content was presented in a clear, structured, and easy-to-follow way, which made even more complex concepts feel approachable and grounded. I appreciated how the course balanced both theory and practical application, allowing me to not only understand why breathwork works, but also how to use it effectively and safely.

Bang for your buck! This course is so rich in knowledge and practical learning techniques. I will be learning over and over as I practice these pranayamas in a deeper spiritual way. Yann and Taryn are very clear and compassionate in their sharing of the lessons.

Having done multiple online courses, this one stood out for its depth and practicality. The teaching section was phenomenal. I loved the anatomy, the guided sessions, and how I now truly understand the breath.

This course exceeded every expectation. I thought I was just filling in gaps — but I walked away with a complete, embodied understanding. I finally feel ready to guide others in a safe, informed way. The value is unmatched.

Brilliant course! The course is well structured into bite size chunks to navigate at your own pace. The anatomy component is quite detailed, even though considered relatively basic, and it was a great addition to the course, to offer the physiological and scientific aspect of breathwork efficacy. Both Taryn and Yann are knowledgeable instructors.
