Loka Yoga School: Yoga Philosophy Training

Course program

The Online Yoga Philosophy Course by Loka Yoga School is a self-paced training in classical yoga philosophy, Sanskrit, and Vedic chanting. Led by international philosophy teacher Sharada Devi, the program goes beyond the standard yoga teacher training curriculum into Vedanta study, mantra practice, and the inner dimensions of yoga.

No prior credential is required to enrol. The course welcomes anyone drawn to yoga philosophy and self-inquiry, and is also positioned for yoga teachers who have completed a 200, 300, or 500-hour teacher training and want to deepen their understanding of the tradition. It suits students who want to study the roots of yoga beyond physical asana.

The training covers six bodies of content packaged together. The core Yoga Philosophy program builds the fundamentals: the language of yoga, the philosophical context behind the practice, and the framework students need to teach or live from a place of understanding. A dedicated module on Tattva Bodhah introduces the knowledge of truth and self-inquiry through more than sixty videos on spiritual teachings and inner transformation.

The Sanskrit Alphabet Practice teaches the original alphabet of yoga, with guidance on reading, writing, and correct pronunciation. The Sacred Devi Prayers and Mantras and the Sacred Vedic Shanti Prayers introduce traditional mantra chanting and unfoldment classes guided by Sharada Devi. A separate module on Understanding the Mind and the Unconscious uses guided meditations, satsangs, and lectures to explore how thought, conditioning, and awareness shape experience.

The course is facilitated by Sharada Devi, an international yoga philosophy teacher based in Bali. She is presented by Loka Yoga School as a senior figure in the Bali spiritual community, with particular depth in Sanskrit, Vedic chanting, mantra, and the classical study of Vedanta and Tattva Bodhah.

The training is fully self-paced and delivered online through Loka Yoga School’s learning platform. Students work through pre-recorded video lessons, lectures, guided practices, and reading material in their own time, with the option to re-watch classes whenever they wish. Enrolled students are also invited into a community support group connecting gurus, teachers, and students around the world.

I recently completed this breathwork course, and I genuinely found it to be a very valuable and informative experience. The content was presented in a clear, structured, and easy-to-follow way, which made even more complex concepts feel approachable and grounded. I appreciated how the course balanced both theory and practical application, allowing me to not only understand why breathwork works, but also how to use it effectively and safely.

Bang for your buck! This course is so rich in knowledge and practical learning techniques. I will be learning over and over as I practice these pranayamas in a deeper spiritual way. Yann and Taryn are very clear and compassionate in their sharing of the lessons.

Having done multiple online courses, this one stood out for its depth and practicality. The teaching section was phenomenal. I loved the anatomy, the guided sessions, and how I now truly understand the breath.

Brilliant course! The course is well structured into bite size chunks to navigate at your own pace. The anatomy component is quite detailed, even though considered relatively basic, and it was a great addition to the course, to offer the physiological and scientific aspect of breathwork efficacy. Both Taryn and Yann are knowledgeable instructors.
