Meditation University: Meditation Masterclass

Course program

The Meditation Masterclass by Meditation University is an accredited meditation teacher training designed to give students working experience with over a dozen meditation styles. Led by Kevin Ellerton, founder of Meditation Magazine, the program covers mindfulness, zen, breathwork, chakras, Tibetan bowls, and more, and prepares graduates to practice and teach meditation worldwide.

This course is open to anyone, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners — there are no prerequisites. It is designed for people who want to deepen their personal practice or pursue meditation teaching as a vocation. The page calls out students dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, burnout, or overwhelm, as well as those simply curious about meditation.

The curriculum is organized into eight lessons covering fifty-one topics. The Introduction lays out what meditation is, why people practice, and how it differs from mindfulness. Meditation Postures explains seated and supported positions and the rationale behind them. Meditation Techniques is the largest section: it walks through mindfulness of breathing, body scan, candle flame, Tibetan bowls, japa, mantras, Japanese Zen, standing meditation, mindfulness of action, and metta meditation. Breathwork & Pranayama covers the foundations of breathwork plus the Wim Hof method, hyper-oxygenation, and emotional release. Woo Woo Stuff explores meditative metaphysics and chakras. Integrating Meditation Into Your Life addresses daily practice and the role of sangha. Teaching Meditation discusses mirror neurons, when to speak versus stay silent, the difference between teacher, guide, and guru, and impostor syndrome. The final section covers the certification exam, final assignment, and steps for receiving the accredited meditation teacher certificate.

The course is led by Kevin Ellerton, founder of Meditation Magazine and Editor in Chief of its global publication. He has been practicing meditation since 2006 and teaching since 2011, when he founded the meditation programs at Florida International University and Miami Children’s Hospital. Kevin has interviewed influential teachers including Wim Hof, Deepak Chopra, Sadhguru, Amma, and Tara Brach, and has taught over 100,000 students on Udemy.

The format is self-paced. The program is delivered entirely as pre-recorded video lessons grouped into eight modules with fifty-one topics. Students progress through the material at their own pace. Five quizzes are placed throughout the modules, and the final section includes a certification exam and a final assignment. There is no live cohort or scheduled session required to complete the program.
