Mindful Store: Breaking Bad Habits Course

Course program

Breaking Bad Habits is a short self-paced course from Mindful Store, led by Dr. Jud Brewer. Drawing on mindfulness science and behavioral research, the program introduces a three-step process for working with unhealthy habit loops — from doom scrolling and stress eating to phone overuse — and replacing them with kinder, more nourishing responses.

This mini-course is open to anyone curious about why they get stuck in unhelpful patterns and how to change them. No prior meditation experience or credentials are required. It is designed as a personal-enrichment program for people who want to understand their own habits, reduce day-to-day anxiety, and build healthier relationships with social media, food, and the everyday triggers that pull them off course.

The course centers on Dr. Jud Brewer’s three-step process for working with unhealthy habit loops. Students explore how the mind forms habits, why willpower alone tends to fail, and how curiosity and kindness can interrupt automatic patterns. The curriculum covers the mechanics of cravings and triggers, day-to-day anxiety reduction, and practical strategies for forming healthier habits around social media use. Through short meditation practices, guided exercises, and reflection prompts, students learn to notice habit loops as they arise and respond rather than react. The teaching combines a 1.5-hour pre-recorded webinar, a four-part video series, written practice prompts from the teacher, and guided audio meditations, giving students both the conceptual framework and the embodied practices needed to work with their own patterns over time.

The course is led by Dr. Jud Brewer, M.D., Ph.D., a thought leader in habit change and the science of self-mastery. Dr. Brewer has spent more than twenty years combining mindfulness training with scientific research. He is the author of The Craving Mind and the New York Times bestseller Unwinding Anxiety.

The course is fully self-paced and delivered online through Mindful Store. After registering, students receive a 1.5-hour pre-recorded webinar, a four-part video series, written practice prompts from Dr. Brewer, and guided audio meditations. There are no live sessions, scheduled cohorts, or assignments to submit. Students progress through the materials on their own timeline and revisit the practices as habits emerge in daily life.
