Functional Movement Injury Prevention Strength Development

My Vinyasa Practice: Advanced Anatomy & Physiology Course

Course program

Advanced Anatomy & Physiology by My Vinyasa Practice is a Yoga Alliance-accredited continuing education course developed by Michelle Young, C-IAYT. The course bridges anatomical knowledge with practical yoga application, examining the musculoskeletal, nervous, and fascial systems through both modern science and yogic philosophy. It is built for yoga teachers who want to refine sequencing, support diverse students, and teach with greater precision.

This course is designed for yoga teachers and movement professionals who want a more comprehensive, embodied understanding of the human body. An existing teaching credential is recommended for the Yoga Alliance CE hours to apply. It suits teachers looking to prevent injury, sequence more intelligently for varied bodies, and integrate biomechanics into their classes. No prior anatomy coursework is required.

The curriculum covers Anatomy 101, body systems, bilateral sequencing, primary and secondary movement, joint systems, subtle energy and gross anatomy, load optimization, and the myofascial system. Students study the musculoskeletal, nervous, and fascial systems through the lens of both modern science and yogic philosophy.

Beyond the foundational science, the course addresses how to recognize common movement patterns in students, offer intelligent modifications, and create anatomically sound classes that support strength, balance, and longevity. Topics include alignment principles, biomechanics applied to asana, injury prevention through informed sequencing, and how to optimize movement for diverse student needs.

The material is structured around the practical question of how to teach with clarity and precision. Students learn how to assess what is happening in a body, why certain movements work for some practitioners and not others, and how to translate anatomical knowledge into safe, effective cues on the mat.

The course is developed and led by Michelle Young, C-IAYT, a certified Yoga Therapist specializing in cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioral health. Michelle holds E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance and serves as a Cardiac Yoga Therapist at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas. She is supported by Tara Cleven, E-RYT 500 and C-IAYT.

The format is fully self-paced and remote. Students receive access to pre-recorded video lectures, asana practices with Michelle, written content, and downloadable PDF resources. All required texts are included in electronic format. Live support is available during business hours through weekly live calls and one-to-one mentorship. Lifetime access is included, with a minimum suggested completion window of four weeks.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
