My Vinyasa Practice: Advanced Practices In Somatic Healing

Course program

Advanced Practices in Somatic Healing is a continuing education certification from My Vinyasa Practice, an Austin-based school led by yoga therapist Michelle Young. The program deepens an existing somatic healing practice with techniques drawn from trauma-informed yoga therapy, energy work, and partner-based facilitation, preparing practitioners to integrate this work into clinical and holistic settings.

This training is designed for somatic healing practitioners who have already completed (or are currently completing) an initial somatic healing certification. It suits yoga therapists, yoga teachers, licensed clinicians, and bodywork professionals who want to expand their toolkit beyond foundational somatic skills and work confidently with clients on trauma release, embodied intimacy, and nervous system regulation.

The curriculum addresses how the body maps trauma unconsciously and how to facilitate its release through somatic technique. Students learn to guide somatic partner work, facilitate distance healing, and design practices that promote deep connection and personal transformation. The program covers strategies for reprogramming the body-mind connection and developing assessment and facilitation skills through peer practice with colleagues.

Students work through mock sessions with personal guidance from Michelle Young, gaining confidence in guiding clients through the somatic process and helping them improve quality of life. The training also explores facilitating embodied intimacy through somatic partner work, deepening the practitioner’s capacity to hold trauma-sensitive space in clinical and holistic settings.

The program is guided by Michelle Young, a certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and E-RYT 500 who specializes in cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioral health applications of yoga. Michelle is supported by Tara Cleven, E-RYT 500 and C-IAYT. The school has built a community of over 60,000 international students.

The course is delivered self-paced and remote, with live lectures, office hours, and weekly live support calls available during business hours. Students receive pre-recorded video lectures, ebooks, a printed manual, and 1:1 mentorship support. The recommended minimum pace is four weeks, with materials accessible through the MVP School App so students can study anywhere.

As someone who wanted a more therapeutic approach to yoga, this training was exactly what I needed. The instruction is clear, compassionate, and deeply informed by the Viniyoga tradition. I gained practical tools for working with different bodies and abilities, learned mindful pacing.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
