My Vinyasa Practice: Foundations of Meditation Certification

Course program

The Foundations of Meditation Certification by My Vinyasa Practice is a Yoga Alliance-accredited online course that prepares graduates to teach meditation with confidence. Blending traditional yogic philosophy with modern science, the program offers a trauma-informed approach grounded in breath awareness, mindfulness, and self-inquiry. Graduates earn 75 continuing education units toward their Yoga Alliance credentials.

The course is open to anyone interested in deepening their meditation practice and learning to guide others. No prior certification is required. It suits aspiring meditation instructors, existing yoga teachers expanding their teaching toolkit, wellness professionals integrating contemplative practices into their work, and dedicated practitioners seeking a structured curriculum that supports both personal growth and the ability to hold space for students.

The curriculum covers a wide range of meditation techniques drawn from yogic and contemplative traditions. Students explore breath awareness, alternate nostril breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, visualization, vipassana, loving-kindness meditation, body and breath sensing, aspect and japa meditations, sound healing, and Yoga Nidra. Beyond technique, the program addresses underlying yogic philosophy and the science behind contemplative practice, including how meditation supports nervous system regulation, emotional balance, and inner resilience.

The certification also develops practical teaching skills. Students learn to cultivate self-awareness and self-compassion, hold space for others without overstepping, and recognize the cues that indicate when a student needs support, comfort, or guidance. Trauma-informed principles are woven throughout, equipping graduates to teach meditation in a way that respects each student’s experience and capacity. The program emphasizes non-attachment, compassionate self-forgiveness, and the cultivation of inner calm as both personal practices and tools for teaching.

The program is guided by Michelle Young, a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 and IAYT-certified Yoga Therapist specializing in cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioral health. Michelle is supported by Tara Cleven, an E-RYT 500 and C-IAYT yoga therapist. My Vinyasa Practice is an Austin-based Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School serving an international community of more than 60,000 students.

The format is fully self-paced and remote, delivered through pre-recorded video lectures, downloadable ebooks, and written content with lifetime access to all materials. Students typically complete the program in a minimum of six weeks and can register at any time. The MVP School App allows learners to download courses for offline study. One-on-one mentorship and live support during business hours are available alongside weekly live calls.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
