My Vinyasa Practice: Foundations of Yoga Therapy

Course program

Foundations of Yoga Therapy is a self-paced online introductory course from My Vinyasa Practice, designed as the entry point into a therapeutic yoga path. The program explores the core principles of yoga therapy through a trauma-informed lens, lays the groundwork for further study in the field, and is delivered as part of an IAYT Certified Yoga Therapy Program.

This is an introductory training, open to students worldwide with no prior credentials required to enroll. It suits practitioners curious about yoga as a healing modality, yoga teachers wanting a therapeutic foundation before pursuing deeper IAYT study, and wellness professionals who want to support clients in addressing physical, emotional, and energetic imbalances through yoga.

The curriculum surveys the philosophical and practical foundations of yoga therapy. Students study the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the history of yoga therapy, samkhya and vedanta philosophy, and the role of dharma and karma in a therapeutic context. Anatomy and physiology are taught with a yoga therapist’s perspective, alongside therapeutic sequencing and cueing for working with diverse bodies and conditions.

The energetic dimensions of practice are covered through chakras and subtle body systems, asana energetics, and adaptations for therapeutic use. The course also introduces specialized practices: yoga nidra for healing, restorative yoga therapy, yin yoga for therapeutic use, and prenatal considerations. A closing module on the ethics and business of yoga therapy prepares students to apply the work professionally. The training is delivered through pre-recorded video lectures, written content, and one-to-one support, with all materials included.

The entire program is guided by Michelle Young, a certified Yoga Therapist and the founder of My Vinyasa Practice. She is supported by a faculty that includes Kaytee Hernandez (E-RYT 500, C-IAYT), Tara Cleven (E-RYT 500, C-IAYT), and Maire McGlasson (E-RYT 500), each bringing additional yoga therapy and senior teaching credentials to the program.

The training is fully self-paced and remote, with a minimum completion time of five weeks. Content is delivered through pre-recorded video lectures, written materials, and asana practices, and all required texts are included in electronic format. Students receive lifetime access plus 1:1 support and over fifteen weekly office hours with lead trainers and the peer support team for questions and additional learning.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
