Functional Movement Injury Prevention

My Vinyasa Practice: Injury Prevention for Yoga

Course program

Injury Prevention for Yoga is a self-paced online course from My Vinyasa Practice that bridges traditional yogic wisdom with modern biomechanics. The program is designed to help students teach and practice yoga safely and sustainably, with a focus on functional alignment, common injury patterns, and long-term wellbeing.

This course is built for yoga teachers, wellness professionals, and dedicated practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of safe movement. No formal credential is required to enroll, but the material assumes an existing yoga practice or professional context. Students join from a global community of more than 60,000 international learners across My Vinyasa Practice.

The curriculum covers advanced anatomy, physiology, and movement topics relevant to yoga practice and teaching. Students explore common postural variations, the mechanics behind frequent yoga injuries, and the modifications and cueing strategies that help prevent them. The course addresses how to work with students who already have injuries, including how to adapt poses, sequence sessions, and offer options that support healing rather than aggravating existing conditions. Beyond technique, the program builds practical tools for facilitating safer practices in a class or one-on-one setting. Application and reflection activities are woven through the material so that anatomy concepts translate into how students assist, observe, and guide others. By the end, learners are expected to feel more confident identifying risk, choosing modifications, and creating a mindful environment where injury prevention is built into the way yoga is taught and practiced.

The course is led by Maura Blackstone, a physical therapist with more than 15 years of orthopedic rehabilitation experience, an RYT 500 yoga teacher, and a certified group fitness instructor. Maura is a graduate of My Vinyasa Practice’s 200-hour and 300-hour yoga teacher training programs. The school was founded by Michelle Young, C-IAYT, who shapes its overall clinical and therapeutic orientation.

The format is fully self-paced and remote, with a minimum recommended commitment of four weeks. Students receive pre-recorded lectures, ebooks, PDF downloads, and asana practices. Lifetime access is included, and learning can be managed through the MVP School App for iOS and Android. One-to-one support and mentorship are available, alongside live support during business hours through weekly calls. There is no fixed cohort schedule.

As someone who wanted a more therapeutic approach to yoga, this training was exactly what I needed. The instruction is clear, compassionate, and deeply informed by the Viniyoga tradition. I gained practical tools for working with different bodies and abilities, learned mindful pacing.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
