My Vinyasa Practice: Nervous System Regulation & Trauma Literacy

Course program

The Nervous System Regulation & Trauma Literacy course by My Vinyasa Practice is a Yoga Alliance-approved continuing education program that bridges modern nervous system science with trauma-informed yogic practice. Led by certified yoga therapist Michelle Young, it teaches the foundations of stress, safety, and regulation so that teachers and practitioners can hold safer, more attuned spaces for themselves and their students.

The course is designed for yoga teachers, wellness professionals, healthcare providers, and dedicated practitioners who want a deeper understanding of nervous system health and trauma-informed care. No prior credential is required to enroll, though it is most useful for those already teaching or working in supportive roles who want to expand their skills with practical, trauma-literate tools.

The curriculum moves through ten core areas of nervous system and trauma literacy. Students study stress response and regulation, polyvagal theory, somatic awareness, the window of tolerance, and breath and regulation practices. From there the course explores trauma-informed teaching principles, including safety, choice, and consent, mind-body integration, and applied regulation tools you can use with students or in personal practice. The final thread brings these together as foundational principles for resilience.

Content is delivered through pre-recorded video lectures, asana practices guided by Michelle, written material, and PDF downloads. The training is anchored in trauma-literate language and reflective exercises rather than lecture alone, so learners build both conceptual fluency and embodied skill. Throughout, the emphasis is on translating science into teaching cues, sequencing choices, and language that support nervous system safety. Students leave with practical tools for self-regulation as well as the literacy to recognise and respond to dysregulation in others.

The entire program is led by Michelle Young, a certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) whose background spans biochemistry, education, functional movement, and therapeutic yoga. Her specialisations include cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioural health, and she brings a science-informed, trauma-literate lens to every section of the course.

The format is fully self-paced and online. Students register anytime, work at their own pace with a minimum recommended pace of four weeks, and keep lifetime access to all materials. Content includes pre-recorded video lectures, guided asana sessions, written readings, and PDF downloads, accessible from the MVP School app on iOS or Android. Live support is available during business hours with weekly live calls and one-to-one mentorship.

This Viniyoga training exceeded every expectation I had. I loved how each lesson emphasized personalization and adapting yoga to the individual. I now feel confident offering sequences that truly meet my students where they are.

As someone who wanted a more therapeutic approach to yoga, this training was exactly what I needed. The instruction is clear, compassionate, and deeply informed by the Viniyoga tradition. I gained practical tools for working with different bodies and abilities, learned mindful pacing.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
