My Vinyasa Practice: Pranayama Certification

Course program

The Pranayama Certification by My Vinyasa Practice is a self-paced online program in pranayama and regulatory breathwork, rooted in the school’s clinical, trauma-informed approach. It integrates the biology and chemistry of breath with traditional yogic philosophy, preparing graduates to apply pranayama with students, clients, and in therapeutic settings.

This course is designed for yoga teachers, wellness practitioners, and health professionals who want to deepen their understanding of breathwork and add pranayama to their toolkit, as well as committed yoga practitioners seeking to advance their own practice. No prerequisites are listed, but the 20 Yoga Alliance CEUs are most meaningful for those who already hold a yoga teaching credential.

The curriculum moves through three arcs of pranayama study. The first arc — Balancing the Mind and Body — covers the anatomy of the breath, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the nervous system, Ayurveda and pranayama, and the role of neurotransmitters in regulated breathing.

The second arc — Awakening Spiritual Potential through Pranayama — explores energetic principles, the subtle bodies, the Panchamaya Kosha system, advanced pranayama practices, and pranayama as a tool for self-regulation. The third arc — Benefits of Pranayama for Students and Clients — focuses on practical application: tools for emotional well-being, self-awareness and self-regulation, client assessment, posture and asana support, preparatory practices, and teaching ratios for guiding pranayama with groups and individuals.

The training is led by Michelle Young, founder of My Vinyasa Practice and a C-IAYT certified yoga therapist with a background in anatomy, physiology, movement science, biochemistry, and yoga philosophy. Michelle specializes in cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioral health applications of yoga therapy. She is supported by Tara Cleven, E-RYT 500 and C-IAYT.

The program is fully self-paced and remote, delivered through prerecorded lectures, ebooks, a downloadable manual, and 1:1 support with mentorship. Students get lifetime access to all materials and ongoing support, with live support during business hours and weekly live calls. A digital manual and all course materials are included; the minimum suggested completion time is four weeks.

As someone who wanted a more therapeutic approach to yoga, this training was exactly what I needed. The instruction is clear, compassionate, and deeply informed by the Viniyoga tradition. I gained practical tools for working with different bodies and abilities, learned mindful pacing.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
