My Vinyasa Practice: Somatic Healing Certification

Course program

The Somatic Healing Certification by My Vinyasa Practice is a self-paced online program that blends yoga, neuroscience, and trauma-informed care into a body-based approach to emotional healing. It is accredited for 100 continuing education hours through Yoga Alliance and IAYT, with a clinical lens informed by yoga therapy and nervous-system science.

This certification is designed for yoga teachers, yoga therapists, coaches, and wellness professionals who want to bring somatic and trauma-informed tools into their existing practice. Because it is a continuing education program, it suits practitioners with prior training rather than complete newcomers, though no specific credential is required to enroll. The training also welcomes seasoned students of yoga and somatics deepening their own healing work.

The curriculum spans the foundations of somatic healing and the practical tools to apply them. Students explore the mind-body connection, embodied awareness, somatic movement as a regulatory practice, embodied mindfulness, and meditative practices that support nervous-system safety. The training looks at how emotions live in the body, how tension and trauma become physically held, and how somatic techniques can release what talk-based work alone cannot reach.

The program also covers trauma resolution, resilience for healing and growth, support for trauma-related symptoms, and the broader framework of somatic yoga. Coursework includes prerecorded video lectures, asana practices with Michelle Young, written content, and PDF downloads. Students gain a working understanding of trauma-informed principles and how to apply somatic skills both to themselves and to the clients and students they support.

The program is guided by Michelle Young, a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) specializing in cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioral health. Michelle brings a background in biochemistry, anatomy, and physiology, and serves Seton Hospital as their Cardiac Yoga Therapist. She is supported by Tara Cleven, E-RYT 500 and C-IAYT, a senior teacher and yoga therapist at My Vinyasa Practice.

The format is fully self-paced and remote, with a minimum completion time of four weeks. Students receive prerecorded lectures, asana practices, ebooks, and digital course materials, with one-on-one support and mentorship available throughout the program. Live support is offered during business hours through peer support, and learners can manage their coursework through the MVP School App on iPhone and Android.

This Viniyoga training exceeded every expectation I had. I loved how each lesson emphasized personalization and adapting yoga to the individual. I now feel confident offering sequences that truly meet my students where they are.

As someone who wanted a more therapeutic approach to yoga, this training was exactly what I needed. The instruction is clear, compassionate, and deeply informed by the Viniyoga tradition. I gained practical tools for working with different bodies and abilities, learned mindful pacing.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
