My Vinyasa Practice: Yoga Philosophy

Course program

Yoga Philosophy by My Vinyasa Practice is a self-paced online continuing education course exploring the roots and timeless principles of yoga. Worth 40 CEUs through Yoga Alliance, the course traces classical texts, lineage, and core concepts so practitioners and teachers can ground their practice in the philosophical tradition behind it.

This course is designed for dedicated practitioners, lifelong learners, and wellness enthusiasts who want to deepen their understanding of yoga’s roots and its relevance in modern life. Because the program awards Yoga Alliance CEUs, it is especially suited to existing yoga teachers seeking to enrich their teaching with philosophical insight, though anyone curious about classical yoga is welcome.

The curriculum covers the philosophical foundations of yoga as a living tradition. Students study the Yoga Sutras and Samadhi Pada, the concept of chitta vritti and the workings of the mind, and Samkhya philosophy as a framework for yogic thought. The course examines the history of Tantra, lineage in yoga, and the foundational teachings that shape contemporary practice.

The program also explores subtle anatomy, including the chakra bodies, the subtle bodies, and the gunas as qualities of mind and nature. Students consider the mind-body connection through a yogic lens and learn how to integrate mindfulness, ethics, and spiritual knowledge into daily life. Each topic is presented through pre-recorded video lectures, asana practices with Michelle, written content, and PDF downloads, with required texts included in electronic format.

The entire program is guided by Michelle Young, founder of My Vinyasa Practice, an E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance and a C-IAYT certified yoga therapist. She specializes in cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioral health applications of yoga therapy, and brings a clinical, intelligently sequenced approach to her teaching of yoga philosophy.

The format is fully self-paced and remote. Students register anytime, work through pre-recorded video lectures, asana practices, written content, and PDF downloads at their own speed, and keep lifetime access to all materials. The program is supported by live calls during business hours, one-on-one mentorship, and a community of more than 60,000 international students through MVP’s online platform.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
