My Vinyasa Practice: Yoga Therapy for Deep Sleep

Course program

Yoga Therapy for Deep Sleep is a Yoga Alliance approved online course from My Vinyasa Practice, part of the school’s monthly yoga therapy mini series. It blends evidence-based approaches with yogic wisdom to address the underlying causes of sleep disturbances and insomnia, using breathwork, guided relaxation, and restorative postures to support deep, restful sleep and nervous system balance.

This course is open to anyone — no prior experience or credential is required. It is designed to enhance both personal well-being and professional expertise, so it suits practitioners looking to improve their own sleep as well as wellness professionals who want practical, adaptable tools to share with clients. The teaching is trauma-informed and inclusive, honoring both the physical and energetic body.

The course explores the physiology of sleep and the role of the nervous system in rest, then translates that science into a practical toolkit you can use nightly. You’ll work with gentle yoga poses designed to release tension, breathing techniques that calm the nervous system, and guided meditations that promote relaxation.

The curriculum also covers sleep hygiene and how to design a personalized practice that fits your life, with an emphasis on creating a peaceful nighttime routine. Restorative postures, breathwork, and mindfulness techniques are taught with a clinical, trauma-informed lens — bridging modern sleep science with yogic philosophy. By the end you’ll have a sequence of poses, breath practices, and relaxation techniques you can use to release stress and tension, quiet the mind, and work toward overcoming insomnia and waking up more rested.

The course is guided by Ali Kamas, a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT). The broader My Vinyasa Practice curriculum is led by founder Michelle Young, C-IAYT, who brings a background in biochemistry, education, functional movement, and therapeutic yoga, and shapes the school’s trauma-informed, inclusive teaching approach.

The format is self-paced and online. You register anytime and work through pre-recorded video lectures and asana practices on your own schedule. Students receive lifetime access to course materials and ongoing support, with live support during business hours and various weekly live calls available through the broader MVP community. The only material needed is a mat for practice.

As someone who wanted a more therapeutic approach to yoga, this training was exactly what I needed. The instruction is clear, compassionate, and deeply informed by the Viniyoga tradition. I gained practical tools for working with different bodies and abilities, learned mindful pacing.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
