My Vinyasa Practice: Yoga Therapy For Depression

Course program

Yoga Therapy for Depression is a self-paced online mini course by My Vinyasa Practice. It offers an integrative, trauma-informed approach to using yoga as a tool for emotional well-being, drawing on neuroscience, psychology, somatic yoga, and yogic philosophy. The course supports students in regulating mood, fostering self-awareness, and restoring resilience.

The course is designed for yoga teachers, wellness professionals, and individuals seeking holistic, trauma-informed tools to support emotional well-being. No prior credentials or experience are required. It suits anyone navigating depressive symptoms who wants accessible practices for grounding and mood regulation, as well as practitioners adding therapeutic methods to their own self-care or teaching.

The curriculum explores how depression impacts the nervous system, breath, movement patterns, and energy flow, and how yoga therapy techniques can support healing from a mind-body perspective. Students study guided practices in asana, pranayama, and meditation, learning how to use yogic tools to regulate mood and foster self-awareness.

Core practices include releasing ruminating thoughts, breath sensing and breath awareness, cultivating mindfulness, orienting, self-compassion, mindful movement, and techniques to release tension. Materials cover beneficial practices for everyday emotional regulation and emphasize a trauma-informed, somatic approach. Course materials include pre-recorded lectures, e-books, one-on-one support, mentorship, and access to the Student Yoga Therapy Clinic.

The course is led by Michelle Young, C-IAYT Yoga Therapist and founder of My Vinyasa Practice, whose background spans biochemistry, education, functional movement, and therapeutic yoga, with specializations in Cardiac, Cancer, Eating Recovery, and Behavioral Health. Michelle is supported by Tara Cleven, E-RYT 500 and C-IAYT.

The format is fully self-paced and remote. Students can register anytime and work at their own pace, with a stated minimum of two weeks to complete. Content includes pre-recorded video lectures, asana practices with Michelle, written content, ebooks, and PDF downloads. Ongoing support is provided through live support during business hours with various weekly live calls, one-on-one mentorship, and access to the Student Yoga Therapy Clinic.

As someone who wanted a more therapeutic approach to yoga, this training was exactly what I needed. The instruction is clear, compassionate, and deeply informed by the Viniyoga tradition. I gained practical tools for working with different bodies and abilities, learned mindful pacing.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
