My Vinyasa Practice: Yoga Therapy for Grief

Course program

Yoga Therapy for Grief is a self-paced mini course from My Vinyasa Practice, designed for anyone navigating the emotional and physiological complexities of loss. Rooted in yoga therapy and informed by somatic psychology and neuroscience, the program offers a trauma-informed, integrative approach to working with grief in the body, mind, and subtle energy systems.

This course is designed for yoga teachers, wellness professionals, and individuals navigating grief in their own lives or supporting others through it. No prior credential is required to enroll. It suits those who want practical, evidence-informed tools that honor the emotional, physiological, and energetic dimensions of loss rather than treating grief as something to be quickly resolved.

The curriculum examines how grief is held across the body, mind, and subtle energy systems, and how the nervous system responds to loss. Students explore the koshas, chakras, and energetic signatures of grief, learning how unresolved grief can manifest physically and emotionally, and how therapeutic yoga can support regulation, release, and resilience over time.

Practical content includes breathwork, guided meditation, journaling, and self-inquiry, along with gentle yoga poses and sequences, mindfulness techniques, grounding practices, sleep quality strategies, and rituals for ongoing self-care. The course also covers holistic approaches to working with grief, the mind-body connection, and tools for self-care that students can integrate into personal practice or use to support clients and students moving through acute and long-term loss.

The program is guided by Michelle Young, a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) whose work spans cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioral health. Michelle is the founder of My Vinyasa Practice and brings a background in anatomy, physiology, movement science, and yoga philosophy. She is supported by Tara Cleven, E-RYT 500 and C-IAYT, a senior teacher within the school.

The course is delivered fully online and self-paced through My Vinyasa Practice’s school platform, with a minimum duration of about two weeks and lifetime access to all materials. Students receive prerecorded lectures, e-books, and all manuals and digital course materials. Ongoing support is available through 1:1 mentorship, the MVP student yoga therapy clinic, and weekly live support calls during business hours.

This Viniyoga training exceeded every expectation I had. I loved how each lesson emphasized personalization and adapting yoga to the individual. I now feel confident offering sequences that truly meet my students where they are.

As someone who wanted a more therapeutic approach to yoga, this training was exactly what I needed. The instruction is clear, compassionate, and deeply informed by the Viniyoga tradition. I gained practical tools for working with different bodies and abilities, learned mindful pacing.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
