My Vinyasa Practice: Yoga Therapy for Low Back Pain

Course program

Yoga Therapy for Low Back Pain is a self-paced mini series from My Vinyasa Practice, designed to bridge therapeutic yoga, functional anatomy, and pain science. Led by C-IAYT yoga therapist Michelle Young, the course offers a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach to addressing chronic and acute lower-back discomfort through targeted movement, breathwork, and mindful awareness.

This mini series is open to anyone — no prior credential is required. It’s designed for yoga teachers and wellness professionals wanting to support clients through back-pain recovery, as well as individuals managing their own low-back discomfort. Students who want a working understanding of pain science and adaptive yoga sequencing will get the most from this training.

The mini series centers on the root causes of low back pain and how mindful, therapeutic movement can address them. Students study functional anatomy and pain science to understand why the lumbar spine responds the way it does, then learn asana and pranayama sequences tailored specifically to lower-back issues. The curriculum covers core strengthening, spinal alignment, breathwork as a regulator of pain and tension, and adaptive movement techniques that allow students at any mobility level to practice safely.

Beyond the postural work, the course explores how to apply these tools in both personal and group-teaching contexts. You’ll learn to recognize patterns of dysfunction, sequence sessions for clients with chronic discomfort, and weave together breath, mindfulness, and targeted movement into an integrated approach. Pre-recorded lectures, written content, and PDF downloads supplement the practice videos, and 1:1 support is available during business hours for questions and personalized guidance.

The course is led by Michelle Young, a C-IAYT certified yoga therapist with a background in biochemistry, education, functional movement, and therapeutic yoga. Michelle specializes in cardiac, cancer, eating recovery, and behavioral health applications of yoga therapy, and her work blends modern movement science with classical yogic tradition. She is supported by Tara Cleven, E-RYT 500 and C-IAYT, a senior teacher within MVP’s continuing education programs.

The course is delivered entirely self-paced. Students can register at any time and work through pre-recorded video lectures, asana practices, and downloadable materials on their own schedule, with lifetime access to all content. Written content and PDF resources accompany the videos. One-on-one support is available during business hours, along with weekly live calls and ongoing access to the MVP community for questions, accountability, and discussion.

This program helped me reconnect with the heart of yoga. The integration of philosophy, functional movement, and breathwork created a learning experience that felt both personal and transformative. I've grown not only as a teacher but also as a practitioner.
