National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF): Certified Strength Coach

Course program

The Certified Strength Coach (CSC) program by the National Council on Strength and Fitness is an NCCA-accredited credential for professionals working in strength and conditioning. It trains coaches to enhance athletic performance across youth, collegiate, professional, tactical, and return-to-play populations, grounded in sport science and evidence-based programming.

Coaches who work with athletes at any competitive level (youth, collegiate, professional, club, and combat sports), tactical professionals, return-to-play specialists, existing fitness professionals seeking to specialize in performance coaching, and those entering the strength and conditioning field.

The curriculum is built around five core areas. The first covers assessing elite athletes, including biomechanical analysis and sport-science-based testing protocols. The second focuses on improving athletic movement through corrective exercise, risk reduction, and efficient body mechanics.

The third area examines sport metabolism, nutrition, and supplementation as they relate to performance. The fourth addresses developmental training for beginner through elite athletes, covering advanced strength techniques, Olympic lifting instruction, plyometrics, and ballistic training. The fifth area centers on programming for performance — periodization models, sport- and position-specific training design, conditioning, and injury prevention.

Additional skill development includes speed, agility, and quickness coaching; change-of-direction and reactive strength drills; and the instructional strategies used by coaches at the collegiate and professional level.

The program is delivered as a self-paced e-learning experience. Enrolled students receive access to the CSC e-learning platform, a digital textbook (with an optional hard copy), instructional videos, lesson notes, digital flash cards, and review quizzes, along with expert instructor support and a one-year membership. A payment plan through Affirm is available, and the CSC can be bundled with the NCSF Personal Trainer or Sport Nutrition Specialist programs.
