Functional Movement Injury Prevention Strength Development

National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF): Suspension Training Specialist

Course program

The Suspension Training Specialist program by the National Council on Strength and Fitness is an advanced specialty credential focused on strap-based suspension training. The course teaches both the broad and nuanced techniques of working with suspension systems and how to integrate them into client programming. It is delivered entirely online and structured around eight self-paced lessons.

This program is built for working exercise professionals who want to expand their service offerings into suspension-based training. An NCSF certification is not required to enroll, but the school recommends that students hold a Personal Trainer Certification or equivalent professional credential. The content assumes a working knowledge of programming and exercise prescription, so it best suits intermediate to advanced trainers.

The curriculum is broken down into eight individual lessons, each pairing an instructional video with corresponding student notes and a quiz. Content is grouped around five major areas: an introduction to suspension training, facing and non-facing anchored exercises, functional movements with the straps, stretching and mobility work, and programming considerations for client sessions.

Across the program students learn how to coach proper stability and recognise common movement errors, progress exercises safely across client populations, apply suspension work to flexibility and mobility goals, and integrate strap-based training into broader programming. The material covers how to select appropriate exercises for return-to-sport scenarios, how to layer suspension training onto general strength and conditioning protocols, and how to use programming principles to target specific training outcomes for individual clients.

The program is fully self-paced and delivered online. Students access the videos, notes, and quiz for each of the eight lessons at their convenience. Quizzes can be retaken as many times as needed to pass each section. There are no required live sessions and no fixed cohort schedule.
