NEU Pilates: Mat and Reformer Online Course

Course program

The Mat and Reformer Online Course by NEU Pilates is a self-paced Pilates teacher training co-developed by Pilates instructor Lara Yanik and physiotherapist Jen Gulley. The program combines classical Pilates mat and reformer repertoire with functional anatomy and the NEU Fascia Method, and is delivered entirely online with one year of access.

This training is for anyone with a passion for movement and healing (no prior certification required), aspiring Pilates instructors building their first credential, experienced teachers seeking deeper understanding of anatomy and cueing, and physical therapists, kinesiologists, and fitness professionals wanting to add Pilates to their practice.

The curriculum is organized into six modules. Module 1 introduces functional anatomy, covering the major muscle groups, posture, and how emotion can influence posture and movement. Module 2 teaches the NEU Pilates principles, including breathwork, lengthening cues, and muscle activation. Module 3 covers the mat and reformer repertoire from beginner to advanced, with bite-sized exercise videos that focus on one movement at a time.

Module 4 focuses on teaching skills: cueing, leading group classes, and delivering private sessions. Module 5 introduces the NEU Fascia Method, including fascia release techniques and how to integrate them with Pilates exercises. Module 6 covers business, marketing, and exam preparation for students who plan to sit the certification exam and begin teaching.

The program is co-taught by Lara Yanik and Jen Gulley. Lara is a comprehensively trained Pilates instructor with roots in the STOTT Pilates system and an internship with PoleStar. Jen is a physiotherapist with a Diploma in Manual Therapy and Fellowship of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy. They have been integrating Pilates and physiotherapy clinically since 2009 and launched the NEU Pilates Teacher Training Program in 2017.

The format is self-paced online. Lessons are pre-recorded and delivered in short, focused videos of roughly two to eight minutes each. Students have one year of access to the course and can typically complete the program in two to three months. Optional support includes monthly live Zoom Q&A sessions with the instructors, a student community, and the option to book private sessions. A seven-day money-back guarantee is offered.

After taking the NEU Pilates course my caseload increased and I was able to help my clients when they had pain and discomfort in certain exercises. I felt like I had tools to help them. That was a game changer for me for teaching Pilates.

Once I learned that Neu Pilates was created by both a Physiotherapist and Pilates instructor I knew that I had come to the right place. I believe the integration of the physiotherapy theory and Pilates movements plus the addition of Massage Therapy creates such a unique experience for my patients.

I chose NEU Pilates to elevate and refine my teaching skills. After being an instructor for various fitness styles for over 5 years now, which include yoga, barre, sculpt, and Pilates, I began to feel somewhat stagnant in my ability to provide students with advanced knowledge and heightened body awareness.

My experience with NEU Pilates during both Springboard, Mat and Reformer courses was beyond exceptional. Lara's energetic teaching style is relatable and inspires students to enjoy the process of instructing. Jen's years of physio practice also shines through in a cool way.

My Pilates journey started in 2019 with STOTT pilates with training up to advanced level in Mat and all equipment (Cadillac, Reformer, Barrels and Stability Chair) and while it was all amazing there was still a gap for me, something was still missing.
