Online Yoga School: Ayurveda Specialist

Course program

The Ayurveda Specialist Certification by Online Yoga School introduces the foundations of Ayurveda — the sister science to yoga — through eight structured modules. The course covers the history, philosophy, and applied lifestyle practices of Ayurveda, with a focus on dosha-specific approaches to nutrition, daily routine, and yoga sequencing.

This certification is open to anyone curious about Ayurveda, whether or not they are a registered yoga teacher. It suits yoga teachers looking to add Ayurvedic principles to their classes, wellness practitioners exploring dosha-based approaches to nutrition and lifestyle, and personal practitioners who want a structured introduction to the philosophy and tools of Ayurveda.

The curriculum spans eight core areas. You begin with the history of Ayurveda and its grounding in the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether), then move into the three doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha — and how to identify your own constitutional type.

From there, the training moves into applied practice: lifestyle recommendations for each dosha, nutritional guidance tailored to constitutional needs, and yoga sequencing that supports balance across the doshas. The final module focuses on creating practical Ayurvedic plans for well-being that students can use for themselves or share with the people they teach. Throughout, the course pairs modules with interactive videos, downloadable resources, journaling prompts, weekly emails, and instructor feedback.

The course is led by Steph Ball-Mitchell, founder of Online Yoga School (Lifted Lotus). She is an E-RYT 500, C-IAYT yoga therapist, YACEP, RPYT, RCYT, and Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience in yoga and holistic health. Her teaching emphasizes nervous system regulation, breath awareness, and embodied movement.

The format is fully self-paced and online. Students work through pre-recorded modules with interactive videos, downloadable resources, and journaling exercises at their own speed. Support includes weekly emails and ongoing instructor feedback, plus optional group discussion and an exclusive Facebook community for course participants. No live sessions are required.
