Online Yoga School: Chair Yoga Teacher Training Online

Course program

The Chair Yoga Teacher Training Online by Online Yoga School is a self-paced certification program that teaches yoga instructors how to lead chair yoga classes safely and effectively. It approaches yoga as an accessible practice that adapts traditional poses for seated work, making the discipline available to seniors, students with limited mobility, and anyone who prefers a chair-supported practice.

This training is designed for existing yoga teachers and passionate practitioners who want to make their teaching accessible to a wider range of students. There are no formal prerequisites, but the program assumes familiarity with traditional yoga poses. It earns YACEP continuing education hours, so it is best suited to yoga teachers building on existing credentials.

The curriculum covers chair yoga safety considerations as a foundation, followed by a full sequence of seated and chair-supported practice. Students study a chair yoga warm-up, chair yoga sun salutations, lower body work, hip openers, forward folds, backbends, standing poses, core work, and chair yoga relaxation and savasana.

Beyond the postures themselves, the training places emphasis on yoga philosophy, alignment, and the benefits of various adapted poses. Students learn how to sequence a complete chair yoga class, modify traditional asana for the chair, and apply safety principles so that practitioners of any age or ability can participate. The course is built around over 35 hours of lectures, videos, and interactive sessions, supported by downloadable study materials including PDFs to save or print.

The Chair Yoga Teacher Training is led by Mary Beth Sewald, an RYT-200 yoga teacher who focuses on creating a safe, advocacy-centred environment for her students. Her teaching emphasizes connection with breath and movement, mindful self-expression, and a positive, supportive atmosphere that allows students to explore their own abilities.

The program is delivered as a fully self-paced online course. Students can start and finish at their own convenience, working through over 35 hours of lectures, videos, and interactive sessions. Detailed study materials, including printable PDFs, accompany the lessons. There are no required live sessions, and the format supports learning around an existing teaching or work schedule.
