Online Yoga School: Learn to Cue Effectively

Course program

Learn to Cue Effectively is a focused continuing-education course from Online Yoga School built around the craft of cueing — the verbal language a yoga teacher uses to guide students through a practice. The program treats cueing as a teachable skill, with formulas, vocabulary, and anatomical communication patterns that can be refined and applied across any style of yoga.

This course is designed for yoga teachers who want to sharpen the verbal side of their teaching. It is open to anyone interested in cueing, but the depth and emphasis suit instructors with existing teaching experience. Students seeking continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance are a natural fit, since the program qualifies for 15 YACEP non-contact hours.

The training is built around simple cueing formulas designed to be applied across all types of yoga. Students learn to deliver cues with efficient, concise language rather than wordy or unclear instruction, and to expand the vocabulary they bring into class. A central focus is communicating anatomical cues with language that empowers students rather than confusing them, including how to guide alignment without leaning on jargon. The course also addresses how to articulate cues that enhance a student’s practice rather than disrupt it, helping teachers move from describing poses to guiding experience. The curriculum is delivered across five modules, supported by cueing formulas, videos, journaling prompts, and ongoing teacher feedback. Optional group discussions and a private Facebook group provide space to test cueing language with peers and gather perspective from other teachers working through the same material.

The course is led by Steph Ball-Mitchell, founder of Online Yoga School and an E-RYT 500 with over twenty-five years of experience in yoga and movement. She is a C-IAYT certified yoga therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a YACEP-credentialed continuing education provider. Her teaching draws on a background in dance, holistic health, and nervous-system-informed practice.

The program is self-paced and delivered online, with content organized into five modules of video, written material, and journaling prompts. Students progress on their own schedule and receive ongoing email support and feedback. The 15 hours count as non-contact hours, meaning the curriculum does not require attendance at any live session. Optional group discussion and a private Facebook community are available alongside the core material.
