Online Yoga School: Pranayama Teacher Training Online

Course program

The Pranayama Teacher Training Online by Online Yoga School is a 50-hour breathwork certification that pairs the ancient wisdom of pranayama with the modern science of breath. Delivered fully on-demand, the program prepares students to lead pranayama and breathwork safely while earning 50 YACEP continuing education hours with Yoga Alliance.

This training is open to anyone interested in becoming a breathwork instructor — no prior yoga teaching credential is required. It also serves existing Yoga Alliance teachers who want to deepen their breath-based practice and bank 50 YACEP continuing education hours. The course suits beginners curious about breathwork, established yoga teachers, wellness professionals, and self-practitioners.

The curriculum spans the ancient wisdom of pranayama and the modern science of breathwork, with over 30 pranayama practices taught through more than six hours of practice video. Techniques include Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath or Breath of Fire), Bhastrika (Bellows Breath), Sama Vritti (Box Breathing), Viloma I and Viloma II, and Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing).

Beyond technique, students examine how pranayama affects the esoteric body through study of the nadis and bandhas, and how breathwork interacts with the central nervous system. The training also includes a dedicated business of pranayama module that guides graduates on building a career as a breathwork instructor. Two downloadable manuals accompany the program — a 75-plus-page Pranayama Teacher Training Manual and a separate Pranayama Practice Manual with written instructions for every technique covered.

The lead trainer is Steph Ball-Mitchell, the school’s founder. She is an E-RYT-500, RPYS, RCYS, YACEP, and a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) through Spanda Yoga Movement Therapy. Steph has over 25 years of teaching experience and holds a master’s in counseling. She previously served on the Education Committee of Yoga Alliance.

The format is fully self-paced and on-demand. There are no required log-ins or live sessions — students complete the program from home on their own schedule. Materials include 32 pranayama practice videos, a 75-plus-page teacher training manual, and a separate practice manual, all downloadable. No video assignments are required for completion.
