Online Yoga School: Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training

Course program

The Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training by Online Yoga School (Lifted Lotus) is a Yoga Alliance Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS) program led by founder Steph Ball-Mitchell. Self-paced and online, it prepares teachers to guide pregnant and postnatal students through safe, mindful practice while exploring the philosophical and energetic dimensions of pregnancy.

This training is open to anyone interested in becoming a certified prenatal yoga teacher, and no prerequisites are required to enroll. It suits existing yoga teachers adding a specialization and movement professionals working with pregnant clients. To register with Yoga Alliance as RPYT after completion, you must already be registered as RYT-200, but registration with Yoga Alliance is optional and not required to teach.

The curriculum spans twelve modules. Prenatal Yoga Foundations covers common conditions during pregnancy and basic precautions. Prenatal Anatomy and Safety addresses early development, the mother-to-be, postnatal anatomy, and scope of practice. Prenatal Yoga Philosophy explores joyful movement, dharma and rites of passage, and the Yoga Sutras for pregnancy.

The practice modules cover prenatal asanas (warm-ups including sun salutations, seated and standing postures, relaxation and restorative postures, prop work), prenatal pranayama (energizing and cooling techniques safe during pregnancy), prenatal meditation (centering, self-love, and guided breath meditations), and prenatal bandha, mantra and mudra (mula bandha, mudras for pregnancy). Additional modules include the business of teaching prenatal yoga, creating safe and inclusive spaces, prenatal Ayurveda (dosha basics, ayurvedic nutrition and oils during pregnancy), postnatal yoga (diastasis recti, pelvic floor, sequencing), and Mommy and Me yoga with stroller and mat sequences.

The program is led by Steph Ball-Mitchell, founder of Lifted Lotus Online Yoga School. Steph is an E-RYT-500, RPYT, RCYT, YACEP, C-IAYT yoga therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience in yoga and movement. She teaches with a strong emphasis on nervous system regulation, breath awareness, and embodied movement, and previously served on the Education Committee of Yoga Alliance.

The training is 100% self-paced and delivered online through video and text lessons, with no required log-in times. Students receive lifetime access to all materials and can complete the program from any device, with a mobile app available. Optional live Zoom sessions, mentorship by email, and community group support are included. The final project is a recorded prenatal yoga class of the student’s chosen length.
