Online Yoga School: Teaching Beginner Yoga

Course program

Teaching Beginner Yoga is a 30-hour YACEP continuing education program from Online Yoga School designed for yoga teachers who want to lead a complete 8-week beginner yoga series. The course pairs teaching methodology with eight ready-to-teach beginner classes, supporting both new and experienced instructors in building accessible programs for first-time students.

This course is built for yoga teachers who want to add a structured beginner series to their offering, fill up entry-level classes, and use the 30 contact hours toward Yoga Alliance continuing education requirements. Some teaching experience is assumed since the program focuses on how to teach beginners rather than how to practice yoga from scratch.

The curriculum spans eight weeks of teaching content: Week One — Access Point, Week Two — The Inner Teacher, Week Three — Sankalpa, Week Four — Present Moment, Week Five — Inner Work, Week Six — Compassion, Week Seven — Releasing Tension, and Week Eight — Detox and Renewal. Each week includes a teaching tip lesson, a full beginner yoga class, and a masterclass paired with a class plan.

Alongside the weekly arc, the course covers preparing to teach beginner yoga, advertising and pricing beginner classes, scheduling software, setting student expectations, making no assumptions, creating inclusive and welcoming spaces, preparing for all body types, teaching postures in progressions, making postures accessible, guiding meditation for beginners, and teaching energetic concepts to beginners. Two bonus meditations, eight beginner yoga practices, a teaching manual, and marketing and business forms round out the materials.

The course is delivered self-paced through Online Yoga School’s online platform. Students work through 44 lessons across the eight weekly chapters at their own pace, with no scheduled live sessions. Course materials, including the teaching manual, class plans, marketing materials, and business forms, are available to download and use directly with your own beginner students.
