Primal Health Coach Institute: Primal Fitness Expert Certification

Course program

The Primal Fitness Expert Certification by Primal Health Coach Institute is a self-paced online program rooted in functional movement and ancestral health. Built on the 10 Primal Laws first introduced by Mark Sisson in The Primal Blueprint, the course teaches a back-to-the-basics approach to fitness that prioritizes posture, breathing, mobility, and play over high-volume conventional training.

This certification is open to anyone interested in functional fitness — no prior credentials are required. It suits existing health or fitness professionals who want to deepen their knowledge and train clients in Primal Fitness, Primal Health Coach graduates or students looking to add a fitness specialization, and health and fitness enthusiasts who want to build a strong, resilient body for life.

The curriculum spans 14 written chapters, each with bite-sized quick facts, an introduction, lessons, a chapter summary, and a multiple-choice exam. Students begin with an introduction to Primal Fitness and progress through Fitness For Health, Everyday Movement, and Human Posture and Movement Fundamentals before moving into Breathing; Stretching, Mobility, Flexibility, Balance, and Injury Prevention; and Cardiovascular Fitness and Endurance Training.

The second half of the program covers high-intensity exercise, Resistance Exercise (with a dedicated chapter on the deadlift and squat, and a separate chapter on free weight, bodyweight, machine, and kettlebell exercises), and Sprinting and Jumping. The training closes with Mindset and Peak Performance, Overreaching, Overtraining, and Burnout, Rest, Recovery, Down Time, and Sleep, and a capstone chapter on Primal Fitness Programming.

The course is hosted by Brad Kearns — a New York Times bestselling author, co-author of The Keto Reset Diet with Mark Sisson, and former US national champion triathlete — alongside Erin Power, Coaching and Course Director at Primal Health Coach Institute and a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach through the NBHWC.

The format is fully self-paced and online. Students work through 14 written chapters at their own speed on any device, passing a multiple-choice exam at the end of each chapter before unlocking the next. Enrollment includes lifetime access to all course materials and entry into a private Primal Health Coach Institute Facebook community for ongoing support. The course typically takes about three months part-time and can be finished in as little as six weeks.
