Soma Yoga Institute: Facilitating Somatic Embodiment

Course program

Facilitating Somatic Embodiment: Skills Beyond Trauma Informed is a 20-hour online continuing education course by Soma Yoga Institute, taught by Alison Scola, a C-IAYT certified yoga therapist and Somatic Trauma Resolution Practitioner. The training equips yoga professionals with somatic tools that go beyond trauma-informed instruction, supporting deeper integration of mind, body, and heart.

This course is designed for practicing yoga instructors and yoga therapists who are ready to extend their skills as space holders and guides in trauma resolution work within yoga. A prior teaching credential and comfort holding space for students are assumed. It suits practitioners who want to deepen their nervous system literacy and develop a more embodied approach to teaching.

The training builds essential somatic skills for teaching trauma-informed yoga from a deeper, embodied foundation. Participants gain a closer understanding of the nuances of the nervous system and learn how to effectively guide students toward the felt experience of embodiment, including how to support clients through dissociative tendencies and into a clearer sense of integration within mind, body, and heart.

The course explores interoceptive awareness through guided somatic contemplation and offers practical somatic yoga and movement techniques for releasing long-held muscular bracing patterns that often underlie chronic pain syndromes. Students develop tools to help others increase their interoceptive awareness and internal resources, learn confident approaches for creating safer space for trauma healing, and cultivate a more profound personal connection to the nervous system, body, and emotions to enrich their own ongoing practice.

The course is led by Alison Scola, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, LMT. Alison came to yoga in 1993 through chronic pain and has trained at the White Lotus Foundation, Integrative Yoga Therapy, Yogalign at Kauai Yoga School, the Novato Institute for Somatic Research, Upledger Institute, Somatic Experiencing International, and Neuroaffective Touch Institute. She is also a Reiki Master and a Somatic Trauma Resolution Practitioner.

The format is fully self-paced online with a start-anytime, go-at-your-own-pace structure, so students can fit the 20 hours of material around an active teaching schedule. Content is delivered through Soma Yoga Institute’s online platform with access to all course materials. No fixed cohort dates or required live sessions are listed, and the course is purchased as a standalone module.

I absolutely love the vibe of working one on one and everything learned in this module made it easy for me to put together sequences for my private client volunteer (who's still coming back for more). The benefit of working one on one is you really get to see results. Every time we meet we check in first and I'm just thrilled with the positive feedback from someone who really needed some positivity in her life.

Peggy is a superb excellent teacher. Not only is she highly knowledgable and experienced in teaching and training others, she delivers material very well, easy to follow, and uses training tools such as slides and handouts which promotes the efficacy of her teaching. She is pleasant and gladly responds to questions with clarity and completeness. She is a great asset to the SOMA institute. I much love and enjoy her practices.
