Sounds True: Self-Hypnosis Online Course

Course program

The Self-Hypnosis Online Course by Sounds True is an eight-session audio program in medical hypnosis with Steven Gurgevich, Ph.D., a psychologist at Dr. Andrew Weil’s Program in Integrative Medicine. Grounded in the principle that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, it teaches students to use trance for everyday physical and mental health.

There are no prerequisites. The course is built both for healthcare professionals adding hypnotic techniques to their practice and for general students interested in mind-body medicine. It suits anyone curious about using self-hypnosis to address stress, pain, sleep, habits, weight, or confidence, with no prior training assumed.

The curriculum covers the theory and practice of self-hypnosis across more than 22 hours of audio instruction and trance inductions. You study the mind-body connection, the history of altered states in healing, and how the subconscious mind listens to and communicates with the conscious mind. Practical training includes 11 hypnotic induction methods such as progressive body relaxation, breath induction, and reverse arm levitation, the five types of hypnotic suggestion, and six trance-deepening techniques. A self-test helps you assess your own hypnotic receptivity. Guided sessions apply self-hypnosis to anxiety, stress, phobias and unresolved trauma, immune support, pain management and recovery, weight and digestion, sleep, creativity, confidence, and public-speaking fears. Long-term subconscious reprogramming work supports responding to pressure with relaxation and clarity.

The course is led by Steven Gurgevich, Ph.D., a psychologist specializing in behavioral and mind-body medicine. He teaches mind-body medicine to physicians at the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine within Dr. Andrew Weil’s Program in Integrative Medicine, and is a Fellow and approved consultant of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

The course is delivered as a self-paced online program built around more than 22 hours of audio instruction and guided trance inductions across eight sessions, three of which were recorded live with Dr. Gurgevich and include audience Q&A. A written workbook accompanies each session with in-depth material and questions for self-reflection. There are no scheduled live calls or assessments.

Thank you for bringing Richard Schwartz HIMSELF to speak about IFS. Having read all his books, it makes sense to me that understanding of Self in spiritual terms is a breakthrough lens for everyone. To witness him, a scientist, courageously bring his hopeful understanding to a public forum is inspirational. look forward to each upcoming segment, and his ideas are a topic of discussion with others involved and not involved in the course.

This [The Way of Guardians and Grace] was a life-changing course. Caroline Myss's stories helped with understanding what she was trying to convey. If you're trying to better understand the importance of intuition, following light over dark, how to tell the difference between the two, and how it comes into play with your soul's journey, this is the course for you!

I've never been so impacted by a book or teacher. I have spent the last fifty years as a spiritual seeker, having read many helpful and inspiring books and attended numerous retreats and workshops. This course [Living from a Place of Surrender] has helped bring me closer to my destination. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for Michael Singer’s wisdom and skill as a teacher, offering a mind-blowing yet understandable presentation of the Truth and how to live it.

I have been following the teachings of Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield for several years. I hold a great amount of respect for their wisdom and skillful teaching. This course is the next step for my personal development as a facilitator and teacher. The course [Power of Awareness] is easy to follow and interactive, making it possible for much self-reflection and meditation practice. This course is a skillfully crafted course for anyone interested in meditation.

Rich meditation lessons for a busy life. I practice meditation almost every day, and I’ve found the Mindfulness Daily to be an enriching and rewarding experience. I’ve completed the 40 lessons many times, yet I continue to return to this practice from time to time.
