Sounds True: Self-Hypnosis Online Course

Course program

The Self-Hypnosis Online Course by Sounds True is an eight-session audio program in medical hypnosis with Steven Gurgevich, Ph.D., a psychologist at Dr. Andrew Weil’s Program in Integrative Medicine. Grounded in the principle that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, it teaches students to use trance for everyday physical and mental health.

There are no prerequisites. The course is built both for healthcare professionals adding hypnotic techniques to their practice and for general students interested in mind-body medicine. It suits anyone curious about using self-hypnosis to address stress, pain, sleep, habits, weight, or confidence, with no prior training assumed.

The curriculum covers the theory and practice of self-hypnosis across more than 22 hours of audio instruction and trance inductions. You study the mind-body connection, the history of altered states in healing, and how the subconscious mind listens to and communicates with the conscious mind. Practical training includes 11 hypnotic induction methods such as progressive body relaxation, breath induction, and reverse arm levitation, the five types of hypnotic suggestion, and six trance-deepening techniques. A self-test helps you assess your own hypnotic receptivity. Guided sessions apply self-hypnosis to anxiety, stress, phobias and unresolved trauma, immune support, pain management and recovery, weight and digestion, sleep, creativity, confidence, and public-speaking fears. Long-term subconscious reprogramming work supports responding to pressure with relaxation and clarity.

The course is led by Steven Gurgevich, Ph.D., a psychologist specializing in behavioral and mind-body medicine. He teaches mind-body medicine to physicians at the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine within Dr. Andrew Weil’s Program in Integrative Medicine, and is a Fellow and approved consultant of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

The course is delivered as a self-paced online program built around more than 22 hours of audio instruction and guided trance inductions across eight sessions, three of which were recorded live with Dr. Gurgevich and include audience Q&A. A written workbook accompanies each session with in-depth material and questions for self-reflection. There are no scheduled live calls or assessments.
