The Path: Meditation Teacher Training in Mindfulness and Compassion (Live)

Course program

Meditation Teacher Training in Mindfulness and Compassion by The Path is a live, cohort-based program that certifies graduates to teach mindfulness and compassion meditation. Rooted in Theravada Buddhism and delivered over three months, the training combines on-demand Buddhist study with weekly live Zoom classes, small-group practice teaching, and personal reflection in a supportive community.

This program is for practitioners who already have some familiarity with meditation and want to deepen their practice while learning to guide others; aspiring teachers; professionals who want to integrate meditation into their work; and committed practitioners who want to study Buddhist wisdom and join a close-knit community of meditators.

The curriculum covers core Buddhist wisdom alongside practical teaching skills. Students study the Five Precepts and the practice of living with virtue, the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path with a focus on Right Action, the Five Hindrances, the Three Universal Truths, karma, and the history of Buddhism and its major traditions. A dedicated segment on insight meditation introduces practices that sharpen intuition and understanding.

Meditation practices include mindfulness of the breath, body sensations, sounds, and thoughts and emotions, two compassion meditation techniques, and walking meditation. Alongside the practices, the program also explores the neuroscience of meditation, explaining how consistent practice affects the brain and supports equanimity and happiness.

Teaching craft is woven throughout. Students learn pacing, timing, trauma-informed guidance, how to respond to difficult questions, and how to create a welcoming environment that encourages community. Weekly small-group pods give each student repeated opportunities to practice guiding meditations and receive feedback.

The program is led live by The Path founder Dina Kaplan, with Manching Tom as live assistant teacher and Leon Ford delivering on-demand lessons each week. Dina has trained and certified nearly 1,000 meditation teachers and guides for companies including Microsoft, Amazon, McKinsey, and Hearst. The Path has run certificate programs since 2015.

The format is hybrid. Each week, students watch on-demand videos covering Buddhist wisdom, the meditation style of the week, teaching guidance, and application to daily life. They then attend a 2-hour 15-minute live Zoom discussion class on Sundays, where they meet in small pods to practice guiding meditations. The fall cohort meets from September 20 through December 13, with classes every Sunday at noon Eastern Time.
