The Whole Health Project: 35-Hour Online Trauma Aware Breath Coach Training

Course program

The 35-Hour Online Trauma Aware Breath Coach Training by The Whole Health Project is a Yoga Alliance-accredited program that combines breath coaching fundamentals with trauma-aware facilitation. It prepares graduates to guide individuals and groups through breathwork practices while holding space for clients who may be carrying stress, anxiety, or trauma.

The training is for anyone (no prior experience required), especially wellness practitioners, yoga teachers, coaches, and healers who want to add breathwork to their offerings, as well as individuals interested in breath practice for personal healing. It is accessible to all ages, with modifications available as needed.

The curriculum is delivered in two connected parts. The 25-Hour Breath Coach module covers the anatomy and physiology of breathing, breath awareness, energising and calming practices, movement for the breath, the art of teaching breathwork, and a final assessment. Students learn over 20 fundamental techniques drawn from ancient and modern lineages, including Belly Breathing, Diaphragmatic Training, 3 Part Breathing, Nadi Shodhana, Chandra Bhedana, Surya Bhedana, Box Breathing, 4-7-8 Breath, and Kapalabhati.

The 10-Hour Trauma Aware Facilitation module shifts focus to the human side of the work. It covers what trauma is, the link between stress and trauma, trauma-aware facilitation, creating safe spaces, and trauma-aware emotional first aid. A bonus business module offers marketing templates and strategies for launching a wellness practice.

Alongside the technical material, students develop a twice-daily personal breath practice, reflective journaling, and coaching methodology for working one-to-one and in groups.

The training is led by Lucy Foster-Perkins and Rachel Fearnley, co-founders of The Whole Health Project. Both are long-standing yoga and meditation teachers who have built the school’s breathwork, meditation, and facilitation programs together. Lucy’s background spans mantra, hypnotherapy, and non-duality teachings under Mooji and Rupert Spira, while Rachel draws on mantra, loving-kindness, and movement meditation from a daily practice.

The core training is self-paced, delivered through pre-recorded video lectures and guided practices. Students have between two weeks and six months to complete it. Monthly live Q&A sessions with the instructors are offered as a bonus, with recordings saved to a library. A lifetime-access Facebook community, mock teaching opportunities, 10+ recorded interviews with practitioners, and email support round out the format.

This has been a really transformational course for me. I have learnt so much about myself in a short space of time and can't wait to continue the journey, on a personal, as well as from a career perspective.

Lucy and Rachel are phenomenal teachers. I was blown away by the amount of information and skills taught in this course. The way they laid out the information was very manageable. As someone who has taken several courses in the past, the organization and structure of the course were top-notch. I feel well-prepared to be a Breath Coach and HIGHLY recommend Lucy and Rachel's course to anyone interested!

Doing this breath coach course was a phenomenal experience. Having the flexibility of a self-paced course was crucial for my schedule. Rachel & Lucy created the greatest program, making it feel like you were learning from them live directly, even though it was mainly pre-recorded videos. The flow of the course made everything simple and easy to learn, starting with introducing a breath, explaining it, demonstrating it, practicing it, and then explaining how to teach it.
