The Whole Health Project: Somatic Foundations Facilitation Training

Course program

Trauma-Aware Somatic Foundations Facilitation Training by The Whole Health Project is a 12-week program that translates body-based facilitation into practical, ethical tools for working with clients. Co-led by Rachel Fearnley and Lucy Foster-Perkins, the training is built on the SAFER methodology and rooted in trauma awareness, designed to help facilitators hold steadier containers and support nervous-system-led process work.

This training is for therapists, coaches, yoga teachers, breathwork facilitators, and group leaders who want to weave body-based awareness into the work they already do. No prior somatic or trauma training is required, and students with previous exposure are welcome to deepen their understanding. The program is not a clinical or psychotherapeutic certification, but a facilitation training for practitioners.

The curriculum unfolds across twelve modules. Foundations & Philosophy introduces the SAFER methodology, limbic resonance, the nervous system, the four Layers of Experience, and the Five Somatic Pathways. Facilitation Fundamentals covers ethical space holding, empathetic witnessing, titration, pendulation, and creating safety in sessions. Subsequent modules explore the somatic landscape, resistance, the Three Stages of Witnessing, the Unshaming Path, and how to expand somatic capacity beyond observation into invitation.

From Story to Body addresses co-sensing, informed consent, and bridging narrative with sensation. Later modules cover breath as a somatic tool, energetic ranges and resourcing, point-based regulation through tapping and somatic touch, parts work and shadow work, and psychosomatics. A dedicated module on Sacred Fire examines the cultural and contextual misunderstanding of anger. Every module pairs theory with personal practices and teaching practice tasks, so students embody the work in their own bodies while building a facilitation toolkit they can apply across coaching, therapy, yoga, breathwork, and group facilitation.

The program is co-led by Rachel Fearnley and Lucy Foster-Perkins, co-founders of The Whole Health Project. Rachel studied breathwork, somatics, Ayurveda, and meditation with teachers including Dan Brulé and Stig Severinsen, and founded The Pineapple House yoga and surf retreat centre in Bali. Lucy began her career as a professional dancer and deepened her study in trauma-aware breathwork and meditation, including with her primary teacher Rupert Spira.

The format is hybrid: a mix of pre-recorded video lessons and live online sessions. Students attend weekly live Q&As with Rachel and Lucy alongside the on-demand modules and a private practitioner community. Time commitment is two to four hours per week over twelve weeks, with lifetime access to revisit the material at any time. Each module includes theory, personal practices, and teaching practice tasks.

This has been a really transformational course for me. I have learnt so much about myself in a short space of time and can't wait to continue the journey, on a personal, as well as from a career perspective.

Lucy and Rachel are phenomenal teachers. I was blown away by the amount of information and skills taught in this course. The way they laid out the information was very manageable. As someone who has taken several courses in the past, the organization and structure of the course were top-notch. I feel well-prepared to be a Breath Coach and HIGHLY recommend Lucy and Rachel's course to anyone interested!

Doing this breath coach course was a phenomenal experience. Having the flexibility of a self-paced course was crucial for my schedule. Rachel & Lucy created the greatest program, making it feel like you were learning from them live directly, even though it was mainly pre-recorded videos. The flow of the course made everything simple and easy to learn, starting with introducing a breath, explaining it, demonstrating it, practicing it, and then explaining how to teach it.
