Vinyasa Yogashala: Advanced Pranayama - Yogic Breathing

Course program

Advanced Pranayama – Yogic Breathing by Vinyasa Yogashala is a self-paced online course dedicated to classical yogic breathing practices. The program walks students through the foundational pranayama techniques of the Hatha tradition, with video lessons on each individual breath practice and the principles that underlie them.

This course is open to anyone interested in deepening a pranayama practice, including yoga students, teachers, and personal practitioners looking to explore specific breathing techniques in a structured format. No prerequisites are listed, so students can join at any level of prior experience with yoga or breathwork.

The curriculum is organized as a single module covering twelve lessons on pranayama. Students begin with an Introduction to Pranayama, then move through individual practices: Surya Bhedi (right-nostril breathing), Chandra Bhedi (left-nostril breathing), Bhramari (humming bee breath), Bhastrika (bellows breath), Kapalabhati (skull-shining breath), Nadi Shodhana (alternate-nostril breathing), and Nadi Shodhana with breath retention. The course also examines the role of bandhas in pranayama, Sheetali and Sheetkari cooling breaths, and a study of Prana and Pranayama drawing on Swami Niranjanananda’s teachings. A written Pranayama Assignment closes the module, prompting students to consolidate what they’ve practiced.

The course is delivered as pre-recorded video lessons hosted on the Vinyasa Yogashala learning platform. Students progress through the twelve lessons at their own pace, with the final Pranayama Assignment as a written reflection on the practices. There are no required live sessions, scheduled cohorts, or fixed start dates — enrollment opens immediate access to the full curriculum.
