Vinyasa Yogashala: Pranayama and Guided Meditation Course

Course program

The Pranayama and Guided Meditation Course is a short online program from Vinyasa Yogashala, a yoga school based in Rishikesh, India. It introduces students to traditional yogic breathing techniques and seated meditation methods, drawing on classical pranayama practices that form the contemplative foundation of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga.

This course is open to anyone interested in pranayama and meditation. The school lists no prerequisites — no prior certification or practice experience is required to enroll. The curriculum covers fundamentals through more advanced techniques in a single sequence, so students can work through the material whether they are new to breathwork or already have a regular practice.

The course teaches a series of traditional pranayama techniques alongside an introduction to meditation. Students begin with an introduction to pranayama as a discipline and then move through specific breathing practices: Surya Bhedi, Chandra Bhedi, Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, Nadi Shodhan with breath retention, Bhastrika, Bhramari, and Sheetali and Sheetkari. The curriculum also covers the use of bandhas in pranayama and a broader section on prana and pranayama as a yogic framework.

The course concludes with a section on meditation and its methods, introducing students to seated meditation as a complement to the breathing practices. Together the twelve lessons form a structured pass through the core breath techniques used in classical Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, with both energizing practices like Bhastrika and Kapalabhati and cooling, calming practices like Sheetali and Bhramari covered in the same sequence.
