Yoga Bliss: The Science of Sequencing

Course program

The Science of Sequencing by Yoga Bliss Lembongan is a 20-hour self-paced course led by senior teacher Lisa Nelson. Yoga Alliance accredited, it teaches the principles behind intelligent yoga sequencing — moving past memorized templates to build sequences with purpose, energetic awareness, and structural coherence. The course is grounded in the idea that asana is choreography, not assembly.

No certification is required to enroll. The course is designed for current and future yoga teachers who want to understand how to build their own sequences rather than rely on memorized formats from a 200-hour training. It is also useful for any practitioner who wants to learn the principles behind how a class is structured.

The course explores the origins of vinyasa and the principle of wise progression — how poses build on one another to create a meaningful arc. Students study how energetics influence each pose, the role of prana and how life-force energy travels through the body, and the theory of transformation as applied to teaching.

The program also covers a review of basic anatomy and biomechanics, the general arc structure that underlies all asana practice, and techniques for offering advanced poses to students even when those poses are outside your own practice. Lisa shares creativity techniques for when inspiration runs low, methods for adapting a sequence to individual student needs, and approaches for enhancing verbal cueing. The orientation is practical — students leave with frameworks for building original, intelligent sequences rather than a fixed set of templates.

The course is led by Lisa Nelson, a senior teacher at Yoga Bliss Lembongan registered with Yoga Alliance as both E-RYT 500 and YACEP. Lisa completed her first 200-hour teacher training in Traditional Hatha and Ashtanga Vinyasa in India and has continued studying across multiple disciplines and formats since, bringing that breadth into how she teaches sequencing.

The course is 100% online and self-paced. Students enroll once and progress through the material at their own pace, with lifetime access to all content — including any material added in the future. A final assignment is required to receive Yoga Alliance continuing education credits; the assignment is optional for students taking the course for personal learning.
