Yoga Farm Ithaca: Teach Chair Yoga

Course program

Teach Chair Yoga by Yoga Farm Ithaca is a self-paced training in accessible chair-based yoga, rooted in the school’s Radiant Warrior tradition. The course prepares teachers to offer a gentle practice where poses are performed while seated or with the use of props, designed for students of all abilities who find traditional yoga sessions too challenging.

This course is for yoga teachers and trainees who want to make their classes fully accessible to students of all abilities. There are no formal prerequisites stated. It suits practitioners drawn to offering a gentle practice — for older adults, beginners, or students with physical limitations who benefit from the support, stability, and strength a chair provides.

The course is built around the Radiant Warrior Chair Set list — Yoga Farm Ithaca’s adaptation of traditional asana for seated practice with prop support. Students explore how chair yoga draws on the broader principles of traditional yoga and applies them to a fully accessible format, where every pose can be performed while seated and/or with props.

You will gain confidence in your ability to practice and teach chair yoga safely, learn to cue the Radiant Warrior Chair Set in a fully accessible fashion, and study how to translate the foundations of yoga into chair-based versions for students who cannot do a floor practice. Across 18 lessons, you will also work through seven full-length chair yoga classes led by three experienced teachers, each bringing a distinct approach. The primary text for the course is Accessible Yoga by Jivana Heyman, used alongside a journal or notebook.

The course is led by three Yoga Farm Ithaca teachers. Lynn Benedetto has over 20 years teaching group fitness and holds RYT-200 and Spiritual Warrior 300-hour certifications through Yoga Farm Ithaca. Pennee Barresi completed her RYT-200 through Yoga Farm in 2017. Zarra Leonard, a NETA-certified personal trainer and YFI-trained yoga teacher, brings a movement-specialist perspective to chair-based asana.

The format is self-paced and entirely online. The 18 lessons run roughly 13 hours of content in total, including seven full-length chair yoga classes you can practice along with. The course recommends a linear progression on the first pass, then revisiting any sections you want to study more deeply. After enrolling, students receive course access via email from support@yogafarm.us.

Yoga Farm Ithaca is one of those rare places that feels deeply nourishing the moment you arrive and somehow continues to work on you long after you leave. In person, the land itself feels held and intentional. There is a sense of care woven into everything from the physical space to the pacing of the days to the people who gather there. The classes and offerings are thoughtful, embodied, and accessible without ever feeling watered down. Whether you are brand new to a practice or deeply experienced, you feel welcomed exactly as you are.
