Athletic Performance Functional Movement Injury Prevention Strength Development

YogaRenew: Yoga for Athletes

Course program

Yoga for Athletes is an online, self-paced workshop from YogaRenew Teacher Training, the continuing education arm of YogaRenew. The course is hatha-centric and built around the concepts of stability, alignment, flexibility, and mobility, so that athletes and yoga practitioners can pursue their physical training safely and efficiently.

The course is open to anyone interested in yoga for athletic performance, with no formal prerequisite stated. It’s positioned for athletes pursuing physical goals like marathons, heavier lifts, or long-distance running, as well as for yoga teachers seeking continuing education hours with Yoga Alliance. Some prior movement or yoga experience is assumed by the framing.

The training covers how yoga for athletes can improve overall performance, promote injury prevention, and cultivate healthy functional movement through anatomical concepts. Students explore how functional movement and repetitive stress motions affect the body and physical goals, and how the concepts of stability, alignment, flexibility, and mobility work together.

The practical side of the program centers on a strength-training-oriented yoga for athletes routine, with asanas chosen to build strength, stability, alignment, mobility, and flexibility. Modifications are offered throughout so that students can balance past imbalances and injuries while progressing toward their athletic goals. The course also provides a road map for continuing to practice in a way that supports ongoing physical and athletic development beyond the course itself.

The course is taught by Briana Aguilar-Austin, an RYT-200 yoga instructor, adventure travel leader, and health coach. She is a long-distance runner with nine marathons and more than twenty half marathons completed, alongside summits of Kilimanjaro and treks to Everest Base Camp. Her additional trainings include anatomy, yoga for runners, prenatal yoga, and Reiki.

Delivery is fully online and self-paced. Students access the course through the YogaRenew Ether subscription, which includes this workshop alongside YogaRenew’s full library of classes, series, and other workshops. There are no live sessions and no fixed schedule — students can start when they enroll and progress at their own pace.
