Elizabeth Stanley is a Georgetown University professor and the creator of Mindfulness-based Mind Fitness Training (MMFT). A U.S. Army veteran with service in Asia and Europe, she developed MMFT to integrate mindfulness with neuroscience and stress physiology research, with funding from the U.S. Department of Defense and testing across four studies with combat troops preparing to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan. She holds degrees from Yale, Harvard, and MIT, and is a long-standing mindfulness practitioner and certified practitioner of Somatic Experiencing, a body-based trauma therapy. She is the author of Widen the Window: Training Your Brain and Body to Thrive During Stress and Recover from Trauma. Her MMFT research has been featured on 60 Minutes, ABC Evening News, NPR, and Time magazine.
