Kirsten is the co-founder of Akasha Yoga Academy, established in 2011 with Burkhard. She is certified by the Yoga Alliance as an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at the highest level (E-RYT-500).
Her yoga journey began during university studies in architecture and art history, sparked by a trip through South India in her early twenties. Her introduction included classical static Hatha Yoga integrated into a holistic way of living — breathing practices, diet, cleansing routines, and mantra chanting.
In 2007, yoga moved from being a side aspect of her life to its center. Since then, she has dedicated years to classical Hatha and Yin Yoga practice and studies, meditation, contemplation, retreats, and investigation into what she describes as the Essence of Life.
Her Hatha Yoga and meditation practice is inspired by Krishnamacharya’s Vinyasa Krama. She is also moved by the pointings of Mooji, which she describes as pulling the yoga teachings off the mat into moment-by-moment inquiry.
Since 2008, Kirsten has presented drop-in asana classes, workshops, and meditation retreats, as well as 200-Hour and 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings. She supported her teachers in setting up and running yoga centers in Mexico and Thailand before co-founding Akasha Yoga Academy.
